How to Tell If a Movie Torrent File Is Fake

Beware fake movie torrents
Scammers and dishonest P2P individuals use false torrents to phish people's identities, bilk them for money, or vandalize their computers through trojan infections. Gratefully, helpful P2P users like 'already_dead' and other longtime supporters of Isohunt.com have built up methods of identifying false torrents and avoiding them.

How to Tell If a Movie Torrent File Is Fake
Below are 10 strong suggestions on how to spot fake torrent movie and music files. This list is changing, and will update regularly with changes in torrent swarming technology.

Related:How to determine quality of torrent movie?

How to Tell If a Movie Torrent File Is Fake

1. Confirm Both the Torrent and the Movie Release Date

For brand new movie torrents, take a minute to visit these two sites:

www.imdb.com to check release dates
www.VCDQ.com to confirm that the new movie exists as a torrent

If the torrent does not exist at VCDQ.com, and/or is released before the actual movie date, then do not trust it.

2. Avoid Using the Following Software

These torrent software clients have earned a bad reputation for seeding malware, fradulent codec downloaders, keyloggers and trojans. Avoid using any of the following:

BitLord
BitThief
Get-Torrent
TorrentQ
Torrent101
Bitroll

3. Trust .AVI and .MKV Files; Avoid .WMA and .WMV Files

For the most part, true movie files are either .avi (audio video interleave) or .mkv (Matroska files) format. Conversely, the great majority of .wma and .wmv files are fake. While there are some authentic examples, most .wma and .wmv files will link to other sites to get paid codecs or malware downloads.
4. Password Instructions, Special Instructions, or Exe Files Are Included

If you see a file in the movie/music torrent that says 'password', 'special instructions', 'codec instructions', 'unrar instructions, 'important read me first', 'download instructions here', then the torrent is quite likely a scam fake. These suspicious files are telltale signs that someone is trying to sneak malware onto your computer! Futhermore: if there is an exe executable file included, then avoid that download! For movies and music, there is no need for an executable file to be present, nor should there be any passwords or any special download instructions.
5. Check for 'Verified' Status on the Torrent

Sites like Isohunt and Torrentbox will actually employ a committee of core users to confirm and 'verify' torrents. While these verified files are small in number, they are very likely true torrents that can be trusted. Keep your Avira antivirus updated and active, and 'verified' files should be safe to download.

From Mininova Torrentz .Fan's Guide

6. Read the Comments, Always

Some torrent sites like Isohunt.com will capture user comments. Like eBay feedback on other eBay users, these comments can give you a sense of how legit the file is. If you see no comments on a file, be suspicious. If you see any negative comments on the file, then move on and find a better torrent.
7. A Disportionate Number of Thousands of Seeds, but No Comments

Abusive uploaders will falsify the number of seeds and peers. By using software tools like BTSeedInflator, abusers will make their torrents look like 10,000+ users are sharing it. If you see these massively large seed/peer numbers, but there are no user comments on the file, then avoid the file! Any true torrent that has more than a few thousand seeds should also have positive user comments.
8. Distrust .RAR, .TAR, .ACE Files

Yes, while there are legit uploaders who use .rar archives to share files, but for movies and music, the majority of rar and archive files are fake. Abusers use the rar format to conceal trojans and codec scam files. Video is already compressed, so there is no need to compress further.

If you see an attractive torrent movie file that is in .rar, .tar, or .ace format, distrust it and examine its listed file contents before you download. If there is no list of the contents, do not trust it. If the file list is disclosed, but the file list includes an .exe executable file, or text files with the words 'password' or 'download instructions', do not trust it.

Peer exchange

Peer exchange or PEX is a communications protocol that augments the BitTorrent file sharing protocol. It allows a group of users (or peers) that are collaborating to share a given file to do so more swiftly and efficiently.
Peer Xchange
In the original design of the BitTorrent file sharing protocol, peers (users) in a file sharing group (known as a "swarm") relied upon a central computer server called a tracker to find each other and to maintain the swarm. PEX greatly reduces the reliance of peers on a tracker by allowing each peer to directly update others in the swarm as to which peers are currently in the swarm. By reducing dependency on a centralized tracker, PEX increases the speed, efficiency, and robustness of the BitTorrent protocol.

Torrent Viruses : How do I know that someone isn't sending out viruses on BitTorrent?

Viruses and torrents
If you are afraid about getting viruses, trojans while using torrents (bittorent)..... Read this article which explains relation between torrents n malicious softwares

Torrent Viruses

From Mininova Torrentz .Fan's Guide

Torrent and Viruses
In short, you cant find if you are getting viruses through torrents. You should treat something downloaded with BitTorrent just like any file downloaded from the internet - that is, if you don't trust the source of the file, then you should use caution when opening it. If the torrent site you obtained it from offers comments, be sure to read those first. But regardless of the comments, running a virus scan on the downloaded files is usually a good idea. µTorrent guarantees that the content you download is not altered from when the torrent was originally created, but if the source files used to create the torrent were already infected, this will provide no protection!

Does µTorrent support Super Seeding mode?

µTorrent: Super Seeding mode
Yes, utorrent does. Double click on the torrent and check the Initial Seeding box to turn it on. For an explanation of what Super Seeding is,click here.

µTorrent: Super Seeding mode
Please note that Super Seeding should ONLY be used if you are the -ONLY- seeder in the swarm, with no exceptions. It is also only effective with at least 2 peers in the swarm, and should generally not be used when you have high upload speeds.

What does Wasted and hashfails mean in torrents?

Wasted and hash-fails in torrents
Wasted shows a combination of discarded data and bad data. Discarded data is data that's sent to you by a peer that your client didn't want. Hashfails happen when bad data is received and the client throws it out.

µTorrent automatically verifies all downloaded data and will ensure that only correct data is written to disk.

What does availability in torrents mean?

Availability of torrents on utorrent(explained): That number tells you how many unique copies of the file are available between yourself and the peers you're connected to. If this is less than 1, you most likely will not be able to complete the torrent. The only thing you can do is wait and hope a seeder hops onto the torrent to allow you to complete it. You can also try and request a "reseed" on the tracker's forum. Sometimes, this may never happen because the torrent was abandoned, and you may need to find the torrent elsewhere.

How do I make µTorrent allocate all the files when I start the torrent?

Turn on "Pre-allocate all files" in Downloads. Turning on this option will prevent compact storage from working, however. Pre-allocate no longer allocates all files when skipping files, only the ones you choose.

There is little use to pre-allocate except for making sure you have enough space when starting a torrent. It does NOT reduce fragmentation as compared to not using it, since µTorrent ALWAYS allocates the full file when writing to prevent fragmentation, regardless of if pre-allocate is on (unless you use sparse files).

Why is utorrent best torrent client ?

Utorrent is considered as best bittorent download program by many torrent users. Although a closed source software, it has many fans. First and foremost it is small in "size" and eats minimal computer resources in comparison with other clients. Consequently it doesn't affect the computer speed.

Its free and the most feature rich BitTorrent client available.

From Mininova .Fan's Guide

Trivia: The author of µTorrent wrote in 2005, "I usually say 'you torrent' because it looks like a u", and offered "microtorrent", "mytorrent" and latter "mutorrent" as candidate pronunciations. The symbol μ, which is actually the small Greek letter Mu, stands for the SI prefix "micro" meaning one one-millionth and refers to the program's small footprint.

BitThief: Bittorent Download Client

First of all I would like to tell you that Bittorent or peer-to-peer technology is all about sharing, there is no room for selfish nature here (learn importance of seeds and peers). But still some people like to pursue there animal instincts and want best quality torrents without having to share with peers. So go ahead download BitThief- a torrent downloader where you just download and don't upload.

From Mininova .Fan's Guide
It has had its share of controversies as well. It collects information about the torrent files being downloaded by the client, such as total number of pieces available, size of the pieces and a hash of the torrent hash.
Though its makers claim they don't get the information which torrent user has downloaded but you can't really tell.

Watch Megavideos Without Limit

How to get around Megavideos time limit

There are many ways to get around Megavideos time limit without buying a premium account. We have gathered some tips for you on this page. Please leave us a comment if you know of any other methods. Now read and enjoy your videos!

WATCH OFFLINE
Click play and pause the video as soon as it starts loading. Let it load to 100%. When the video is done buffering, go to the menu bar on your browser and click “File” -> “Work offline”.

Watch the video while you are offline. Megavideo only counts the time you are actually watching the video online, not buffering it. So watching the video offline does not use any minutes of the time limit. You can also load multiple videos and watch them when you want, because they are “downloaded” to your cache. If you close the browser, or clear your cache, however, you will most likely lose the video(s).

When you are finished watching the video, unclick the “work offline” button so you are connected to internet again. Now you can start loading the next video(s), and repeat the process as many times as you want.

DOWNLOAD VIDEO WITH FIREFOX’ DOWNLOAD HELPER
If you’re not already using Firefox, you’re about to get a very good excuse to switch. Install the plugin “Download Helper” in Firefox if you don’t already have it, and open the Megavideo video with your Firefox browser.

As soon as the video starts loading you will see a little icon right next to the address bar. Click the icon and you will get a dropdown-menu with the name of the videofile. Click on the file and save it to your computer. Now you can continue surfing or download more videos. Download helper can be used on most sites with videos.

When the file is finished downloading you can watch it in a media player that supports .flv-files. We recommend using the free VLC player.

DOWNLOAD VIDEO WITH INTERNET EXPLORER
If you are using Internet Explorer start loading the video and then pause it. When the video is finished loading, open the temporary folder of your PC and locate the file. It should have the .flv extension. Open the video in a media player that supports .flv-files, like f.ex. VLC.

HIDING YOUR IP WITH HOTSPOT SHIELD
Megavideo is looking at your IP address to determine how long you have been watching the videos. By using a program that hides your IP you can easily get a new IP address as soon as the time limit message appears. There are some different programs that does this. The most popular and the only one we have tested is Hotspot Shield.

Install the program and click “connect”. It will now assign you a new IP address. Whenever you want you can click “disconnect” to surf internet without using Hotspot Shield.

The program displays some ads, and surfing might be a bit slower while you are using Hotspot Shield then without it. But at least you can watch as many Megavideo minutes as you want. If you only use Hotspot Shield while you are watching videos, or need to hide/change your IP, then it should not be any problem.

By using Hotspot Shield you can also access content that are only available to people from certain countries, like f.ex. certain videos on sites like Hulu, Pandora, ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, MTV, The CW and similar.

RENEWING YOUR IP WITH THE ROUTER
If you have dynamic IP you can turn off your router for 30 seconds and then turn it back on. Your IP should be renewed now and your time limit reset. Restart the router again when you get a new error message from Megavideo.

RENEWING YOUR IP WITH IPCONFIG
If you have dynamic IP but no router, you could try the following:

Press the Windows start button and click run, or type Windows+R. In the “run window” type either CMD or Command and a black rectangular box should pop up.

Type “ipconfig /release” and hit enter. You will now be disconnected from internet. Type “ipconfig /renew” to connect to internet again and renew your ip address. Exit the application and you will now have reset the Megavideo time limit. Repeat the process as soon as you get a new message from Megavideo that you have exceeded the time limit.

From Mininova .Fan's Guide
GO PREMIUM
If you watch a lot of videos on Megavideo you might go tired of the workarounds in the long run. The best is of course a premium account – no more time limits and no more ads. And there is a way you can get it for free. Megavideo have a reward program that gives you points for views on videos you upload. These points can then be exchanged in to a premium account.

You need a lot of video views though, so you might as well just start uploading right away… And if you need traffic to your videos just send us the link and we can place it on our site. When uploading videos to Megavideo we recommend using their Megamanager. It goes a lot faster to upload videos through the Megamanager than from the website.

Utorrent

uTorrent is the one of the most popular BitTorrent clients. Why? It has most of the present in other BitTorrent clients but is very light-weight. µTorrent is very efficient and unlike other torrent clients,it doesn't "eat up" system resources typically uses less than 6MB of memory, making you feel as if it weren't there at all. And best thing is its download file is less than 220 KB in size. Go Ahead Download Utorrent.

Can I preview Torrent files before they have been completely downloaded?

If you ask me directly, I would say "depends". Because the BitTorrent protocol downloads pieces in arbitrary order, there is no guarantee that the part of the file necessary for previewing (usually the beginning of the file) is present. To further complicate matters, some torrents are packaged as an archive, which would be quite difficult to extract until it's complete.

Now, what we can do, well you can still attempt to view the file periodically, you may eventually get lucky. Caution: if the file you are downloading is archived (i.e. its a ZIP or RAR file) there is no way you can preview it until its completely downloaded. If that is not the case try opening the file in whatever application is meant to be used to view it, but don't be surprised if any error message pops up.

What is seeding? Why should I leave the client open after it finishes downloading?

First, you may want to read the answers to the question on terminology. A seed is a client which has a complete file. Seeding is the process of connecting to a torrent when you have a complete file. There are two ways to do this:
  • ...by leaving your client open after the download completes. Once you have the entire file you become a seed, and the BitTorrent client remains connected to the swarm, sending to other users until you close it.
  • ...by clicking on a torrent link (or opening a saved .torrent file) and selecting a filename of a file that has already completed. BitTorrent will check over the file and realize that it's already complete, and continue to connect to the tracker and serve as a seed.

Your Ad Here

It's generally considered a good idea to leave your client open as long as possible, since it helps other users. Some communities have guidelines on when it's permissible to disconnect, typically after the ratio of bytes received to bytes sent reaches 1:1, or 24 hours after the download completes. Please be nice, and do what you can to contribute to other users.

Torrent Share Ratio

Knowing about Share Ratio, seeds, peers, leechers makes torrent download experience great. So what exactly is bittorent share ratio? And what role share ratio plays in torrent download speed?

A user's share ratio for any individual torrent is a number determined by dividing the amount of data that user has uploaded by the amount of data they have downloaded. Final share ratios over 1 carry a positive connotation in the BitTorrent community because they indicate that the user has sent more data to other users than they received. Likewise, share ratios under 1 have a negative connotation.

Create and upload torrent file

Well lets see how to create a torrent and then upload it using Utorrent, bitcomet and Azureus.

Torrents are the best way to share files. It works on peer to peer file sharing protocol. A torrent is actually a small file with extension .torrent which contains information about the tracker and where the file is located. To download a torrent file you need a torrent client like utorrent, bittorrent.

Please note I got this information from http://torrentfreak.com/

So how do you make torrent? Well it’s very simple. Open your favorite BitTorrent client and do the magic trick:

file > create torrent

That’s all? Well almost. All you need to do now is put in the tracker info and tick some boxes. This can differ somewhat from client to client but it all comes down to the same thing.

Utorrent.
utorrent bit torrent

1. File > Create new Torrent (or CTRL + N)
2. Select the files and or directories

3. Trackers: This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers. You can use one or more trackers, but in general one is enough.

Here are some good trackers you can use:

http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce

http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
http://www.sumotracker.com/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

4. Do NOT tick the private torrent box (unless you’re using a private tracker)

5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Bitcomet

bitcomet bit torrent

1. File > Create Torrent (or CTRL + M)

2. Select the files and or directories

3. Select “enable public DHT network” from the dropdown box
This way you can be your own tracker if the public tracker goes down.

4. Tracker server and DHT node list
Again, This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers. You can use one or more trackers, but in general one is enough.

Here are some of the most popular trackers at the moment:

Put one of these in the tracker box

5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Azureus

azureus bit torrent

1. File > New Torrent (or CTRL + N)

2. Tick “use an external tracker”.
And again, This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers.

Here are some of the most popular trackers at the moment:

http://tracker.prq.to/announce
http://inferno.demonoid.com:3389/announce
http://tracker.bt-chat.com/announce
http://tracker.zerotracker.com:2710/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

3. Select single file or dicectory, click NEXT and point to the file or directory you want to share, and click NEXT

4. Do NOT tick “private torrent”

5. Do tick “allow decentralized tracking”

6. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Warning: uploading copyright-protected material might be prohibited by law in some countries. Sites do not take any responsibility for your submission.
