µTorrent: Super Seeding mode
Yes, utorrent does. Double click on the torrent and check the Initial Seeding box to turn it on. For an explanation of what Super Seeding is,click here.

What does Wasted and hashfails mean in torrents?

Wasted and hash-fails in torrents
Wasted shows a combination of discarded data and bad data. Discarded data is data that's sent to you by a peer that your client didn't want. Hashfails happen when bad data is received and the client throws it out.

µTorrent automatically verifies all downloaded data and will ensure that only correct data is written to disk.

What does availability in torrents mean?

Availability of torrents on utorrent(explained): That number tells you how many unique copies of the file are available between yourself and the peers you're connected to. If this is less than 1, you most likely will not be able to complete the torrent. The only thing you can do is wait and hope a seeder hops onto the torrent to allow you to complete it. You can also try and request a "reseed" on the tracker's forum. Sometimes, this may never happen because the torrent was abandoned, and you may need to find the torrent elsewhere.

Reseed: What is reseeding ?

Reseeding a torrent
I am sure many of us have experienced when we are stuck after downloading 99% of torrent. In such a case I suggest you find free trackers to download torrent file or find more active trackers for old torrents.

But if any of these things don't work-out for you, then request for someone to reseed that torrent.

From Mininova Torrentz .Fan's Guide

Reseeding:- When there are few or no active seeds (or no enough peers to have distributed copy) for the specific torrent, all the peers get stuck at some percentage with incomplete download, since no one among the swarm has the missing pieces of file.
At this point to have complete download someone with a complete download copy (a seed) must join the swarm so that we can download missing pieces. This is reseeding.

For reseeding you have to request someone and as he/she obliges, I feel you should also seed that file after your download is complete to help others. Keep Seeding :)

BitThief: Bittorent Download Client

First of all I would like to tell you that Bittorent or peer-to-peer technology is all about sharing, there is no room for selfish nature here (learn importance of seeds and peers). But still some people like to pursue there animal instincts and want best quality torrents without having to share with peers. So go ahead download BitThief- a torrent downloader where you just download and don't upload.

From Mininova .Fan's Guide
It has had its share of controversies as well. It collects information about the torrent files being downloaded by the client, such as total number of pieces available, size of the pieces and a hash of the torrent hash.
Though its makers claim they don't get the information which torrent user has downloaded but you can't really tell.
OFFICIAL SITE :- http://dcg.ethz.ch/projects/bitthief/

I don't recommend you to use it rather keep seeding and use Utorrent.

DHT in uTorrent | Enable / Disable it ?

In Utorrent there is an option of enabling or disabling DHT. Seen it? Now What is DHT and how does it affects download speed and other things while downloading torrent.

DHT stands for “Distributed Hash Table”. Technically, DHTs characteristically emphasize the following properties:

* Decentralization: the nodes collectively form the system without any central coordination.
* Scalability: the system should function efficiently even with thousands or millions of nodes.
* Fault tolerance: the system should be reliable (in some sense) even with nodes continuously joining, leaving, and failing.

u-torrent DHT
How it affects torrents Download ?

DHT layers “decentralize” torrents what make them more stable and less reliant on the web based trackers. If a web based tracker goes down, the torrents stay alive because peers can act as “nodes” keeping the swarm intact.
What this means is that your client will be able to find peers even when the tracker is down, or doesn't even exist anymore. It allows the swarm to continue as normal without a tracker.

Good Share Ratio in Torrents

As discussed earlier about importance of seeding in torrents and why should you keep file uploading after torrent download is complete. We also discussed what is Torrent Share Ratio ?

Now what is the good share ratio and what should be its value to be known as a responsible bittorent user? Well best share ratio should be 1.0 or above. This means you have uploaded more than you have downloaded. This way of thinking is vital in the Bittorent community. Although sometimes it is difficult to seed what you have downloaded, just try to make an effort.

Go ahead with this mentality and every top torrent site will be best for you.

What is a tracker in Torrents?

A BitTorrent tracker is a service on the internet that assists in the communication between BitTorrent clients. When you open a torrent file, your machine contacts the tracker and asks for a list of seeds and leechers to connect to.

A Bit Torrent tracker centrally coordinates the P2P transfer of files among users.
Tracker software serves up torrent files for download from a Web site. The tracker maintains information about all BitTorrent clients utilizing each torrent. Specifically, the tracker identifies the network location of each client either uploading or downloading the P2P file associated with a torrent. It also tracks which fragment(s) of that file each client possesses, to assist in efficient data sharing between clients.

Super-seeding mode in utorrent, vuze, azureus & other torrent clients

I am sure many of you may have come across super-seeding term in your torrent download softwares(torrent clients). First of all I would like you to go through some bittorrent terminology like seeds, peers, leechs.

Ok, lets learn a term super-seeding seen in torrent clients like utorrent, vuze & azureus. After you have completely downloaded a file through torrent and when a file is new, much time can be wasted because the seeding client might send the same file piece to many different peers, while other pieces have not yet been downloaded at all. Some clients, like ABC, Vuze, BitTornado, TorrentStorm, and µTorrent have a "super-seed" mode, where they try to only send out pieces that have never been sent out before, theoretically making the initial propagation of the file much faster. However the super-seeding becomes substantially less effective and may even reduce performance compared to the normal "rarest first" model in cases where some peers have poor or limited connectivity. This mode is generally used only for a new torrent, or one which must be re-seeded because no other seeds are available.

Can I preview Torrent files before they have been completely downloaded?

If you ask me directly, I would say "depends". Because the BitTorrent protocol downloads pieces in arbitrary order, there is no guarantee that the part of the file necessary for previewing (usually the beginning of the file) is present. To further complicate matters, some torrents are packaged as an archive, which would be quite difficult to extract until it's complete.

Now, what we can do, well you can still attempt to view the file periodically, you may eventually get lucky. Caution: if the file you are downloading is archived (i.e. its a ZIP or RAR file) there is no way you can preview it until its completely downloaded. If that is not the case try opening the file in whatever application is meant to be used to view it, but don't be surprised if any error message pops up.

Torrent Share Ratio

Knowing about Share Ratio, seeds, peers, leechers makes torrent download experience great. So what exactly is bittorent share ratio? And what role share ratio plays in torrent download speed?

A user's share ratio for any individual torrent is a number determined by dividing the amount of data that user has uploaded by the amount of data they have downloaded. Final share ratios over 1 carry a positive connotation in the BitTorrent community because they indicate that the user has sent more data to other users than they received. Likewise, share ratios under 1 have a negative connotation.

Steps to Finding the Best Torrents

Trying to find the best torrents and not being attacked by a virus. I have been through this and ever since I developed a few set of rules for every torrent that I downloaded and I did find the best torrents to download ever since, here are those 5 rules:
  1. The most important thing is to check the date when the torrent was added, make sure that the torrent is at least 5 days old, because if it is a virus it may takes up to 3 days for it to be discovered as a virus and cleaned from the system.
  2. Read the comments, and do not fall for it if there are as less as 3 comments. Usually if it is a virus, the person who made it can add 3 comments from different accounts just to make people believe in it. People usually tell in comments about the torrent, for example they’ll tell you if it is a virus.

  3. The ratio between seeders and leechers is a very important aspect. Make sure that the ratio of seeders to leechers is somewhere around 5 : 4 or something similar to that. In case 1 if there are a lot more seeders than leechers then you can consider yourself to be wasting time to set it to downloading as you would not get any downloading speed, in Case 2 if there are five time more seeders than the leechers, then there is something fishy as hackers know how to easily fake the seeders count, if you’re not very good in mathematical ratios then check the Seeder Leecher Ratio Calculator and enter either the seeder or leecher of a torrent and it will tell you the suitable amount of the other one.
  4. Use a good torrent site and always search for the same torrent in all of them as it will help you find the best one, I recommend the torrent sites listed below as they are the most reliable ones, although the first is the most recommended but the rest torrent search engines are not that bad either:
    1. btjunkie
    2. Pirate Bay
    3. Mini Nova
  5. Download torrents from famous users. Anonymous users usually put torrents of malicious softwares, for example if you want to download latest English movies you should search for the movies by aXXo or KLAXXON. It is best not to download torrents from guest and anonymous users.

I follow these 5 steps and have found the right torrents ever since, and this not only finds the right torrent but also protects you from virus torrents, and trust me you don’t want to be attacked by one!

Create and upload torrent file

Well lets see how to create a torrent and then upload it using Utorrent, bitcomet and Azureus.

Torrents are the best way to share files. It works on peer to peer file sharing protocol. A torrent is actually a small file with extension .torrent which contains information about the tracker and where the file is located. To download a torrent file you need a torrent client like utorrent, bittorrent.

Please note I got this information from http://torrentfreak.com/

So how do you make torrent? Well it’s very simple. Open your favorite BitTorrent client and do the magic trick:

file > create torrent

That’s all? Well almost. All you need to do now is put in the tracker info and tick some boxes. This can differ somewhat from client to client but it all comes down to the same thing.

Utorrent.
utorrent bit torrent

1. File > Create new Torrent (or CTRL + N)
2. Select the files and or directories

3. Trackers: This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers. You can use one or more trackers, but in general one is enough.

Here are some good trackers you can use:

http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce
http://www.torrent-downloads.to:2710/announce
http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
http://www.sumotracker.com/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

4. Do NOT tick the private torrent box (unless you’re using a private tracker)

5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Bitcomet

bitcomet bit torrent

1. File > Create Torrent (or CTRL + M)

2. Select the files and or directories

3. Select “enable public DHT network” from the dropdown box
This way you can be your own tracker if the public tracker goes down.

4. Tracker server and DHT node list
Again, This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers. You can use one or more trackers, but in general one is enough.

Here are some of the most popular trackers at the moment:

http://open.tracker.thepiratebay.org/announce

http://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
udp://denis.stalker.h3q.com:6969/announce
http://www.sumotracker.com/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

5. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Azureus

azureus bit torrent

1. File > New Torrent (or CTRL + N)

2. Tick “use an external tracker”.
And again, This is probably the hard part for most people. But it’s pretty easy, just put in one of the popular public trackers.

Here are some of the most popular trackers at the moment:

http://tracker.prq.to/announce
http://inferno.demonoid.com:3389/announce
http://tracker.bt-chat.com/announce
http://tracker.zerotracker.com:2710/announce

Put one of these in the tracker box

3. Select single file or dicectory, click NEXT and point to the file or directory you want to share, and click NEXT

4. Do NOT tick “private torrent”

5. Do tick “allow decentralized tracking”

6. Save the torrent and send it to your friends

Warning: uploading copyright-protected material might be prohibited by law in some countries. Sites do not take any responsibility for your submission.

Bittorent: What and How it works?

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for distributing large amounts of data. BitTorrent is one of the most common protocols for transferring large files, and by some estimates it accounted for approximately 35% of all traffic on the entire Internet in 2002.

The protocol works initially when a file provider makes his/her file (or group of files) available to the network. This is called a seed and allows others, named peers, to connect and download the file. Each peer that downloads a part of the data makes it available to other peers to download. After the file is successfully downloaded by a peer, many continue to make the data available, becoming additional seeds. This distributed nature of BitTorrent leads to a viral spreading of a file throughout peers. As more peers join the swarm, the likelihood of a successful download increases. Relative to standard Internet hosting, this provides a significant reduction in the original distributor's hardware and bandwidth resource costs. It also provides redundancy against system problems and reduces dependence on the original distributor.

Programmer Bram Cohen designed the protocol in April 2001 and released a first implementation on July 2, 2001.It is now maintained by Cohen's company BitTorrent, Inc. There are numerous BitTorrent clients available for a variety of computing platforms. According to isoHunt, the total amount of shared content is currently more than 1.7 petabytes.

What are seeds and leechers (peers) in torrents?

Number of seeds and leechers (peers) play an important role in determining the download speed of torrent file. So what exactly is meaning of torrents (bittorrent, utorrent) seeds and leechers?

What are seeds?

A seed is a client that has a complete copy of the data of a certain torrent. Once your BitTorrent client finishes downloading, it will remain open until you click the Finish button (or otherwise close it). This is known as being a seed or seeding.

What are leechers?

A leecher is a client that is currently downloading the data of a torrent. A leecher does not have the complete file, otherwise it would be called a seed.

Conclusion:
Seeds have the complete file and are actively sharing ... peers are downloading the file and have part of it and usually are sharing pieces also ... high numbers of each are best for speed ... low numbers of seeds and high peers will make it slow .. low numbers on each will make it slow ......

Caution:
If a file has 0 seeders or a vast amount more leechers/peers than seeders then it is a risk of a virus, if possible it is best to view any comments associated with the file first. Don't be fooled by torrents with more or most seeds and peers.

More for experts:

Leech:
=====
an egoistic person who downloads a file using P2P technology, and who does NOT share (enough) with others when in possession of the complete file, reducing it's Availability. Normally in BitTorrent, it is polite and considerate to leave your connection open long after you finish downloading to seed - so that other peers in the swarm, who do NOT yet have the complete file yet, benefit from you sharing, as you did benefit from others sharing when you originally downloaded the torrent. Some share more, some share less, but a leech is somebody who closes their connection as soon as they have downloaded the complete file. In the long run, your total Share Ratio (Tools > Statistics > Transfers Tab) should always be >1.000!

Your Ad Here

Seed:
====
a peer who has 100% of the torrent and is only uploading to other peers. Seed is also used as a verb, as in "I'm going to be seeding this file overnight", meaning leave open and available for other users to download. Usually, a person with the whole file is a 'seed', while someone with a partial amount is a peer. Remember that a seed is not a file server. We're not talking about "magic seeds" here, so get any idea like that out of your mind. Connecting to more seeds does not necessarily mean that you'll finish downloading any faster. If you don't connect to all the seeds in a swarm, or even if you don't connect to any seeds, it does not mean Azureus is doing anything wrong. For any random torrent, you might download faster when connected only to 5 other peers and no seeds than you might with some other random torrent while connected to 50 seeds and no other peers. Seeding torrents improves your Share Ratio.

So, go ahead enjoy the file-sharing experience with Mininova after having a good knowledge about what are leechers and seeds in torrentz?
